What Comes Next · Roadmap

Grow the guide one useful phase at a time.

Phase 1 is complete. The current v1.2 field-test build is validating mobile use and a small blue/green/mixed place pilot before BlueGreen Guide commits to broader Phase 2 place-detail work.

Roadmap principle: Each phase should deliver a useful improvement without requiring a large rewrite or introducing advanced features before the supporting data and workflows are ready.

Phase 1 — Curated Launch Map

Complete POCv1.1.0 closeout56 places at closeout

Phase 1 established the static map, canonical data workflow, search, filters, curated collections, place cards/details, source-review approach, responsive layouts, final Design System 2.0 branding, documentation, and validation.

Historical count: 56 places describes the v1.1.0 closeout, not the current field-test runtime.

v1.2 — Mobile/PWA Field-Test Build

Current89 active runtime placesGreen/mixed pilot

v1.2 keeps Phase 1 closed while making the proof of concept usable for real phone and on-site testing.

Mobile field use

Explore, Map, and Nearby navigation; mobile sheets; compact map tools; responsive filters; PWA metadata; and a versioned service-worker app shell.

Broader place model

The base dataset is now generalized to places, with Water, Land, and mixed discovery semantics. Mixed destinations intentionally qualify for both relevant discovery views.

Small field-test pilot

Ten green/mixed pilot records test whether the architecture works beyond paddling. Diamond Valley Lake overlays an existing stable-ID place, producing nine net-new runtime places.

Field-test goal: Learn what works on site—mobile usability, place classification, marker placement, source wording, imagery, and practical planning value—before expanding scope.

Phase 2 — Structured Place Details

On hold

When resumed, begin with a small pilot using existing places and normalized planning fields rather than expanding the entire dataset at once.

Phase 3 — Conditions and Planning

Connect places with clearly sourced current information while keeping live data separate from static place facts and curated guidance.

Weather and wind

Current or forecast conditions that materially affect outdoor planning.

Water conditions

Tides where relevant, water temperature, water-quality context, and seasonal access notes.

Daylight

Sunrise and sunset information for practical trip timing.

Phase 4 — Community Layer

Potential features include ratings, reviews, photos, suggested edits, favorites, reports of inaccurate information, and trip notes.

Phase 5 — Intelligent Recommendations

Potential features include natural-language discovery, ranked recommendations, personalized filters, and conditions-aware suggestions after the underlying data is mature enough to support them.

Phase 6 — Routes and Ecosystem

Potential features include paddle routes, hiking and shoreline routes, duration, trip logging, clubs, outfitters, lessons, shareable plans, and broader blue-space and green-space discovery.

Roadmap, not a promise: Scope and sequence may change as the prototype is tested, data quality improves, and the most useful next step becomes clearer.
